"Egisu"

"Egisu"........
Country of origin-Nigeria.
Defination: It's a Nigerian gumbo mixture of fish, chicken, beef, pork, rice and whatever else your imagination throws at you!

Use it in a blog: Sorry....... back to my story, it was Thursday morning and the temperatures were a whopping 30 degrees Celsius Dallas. There is a reason I moved back to Texas, its not supposed to be that cold!! I decided to warm myself up by walking up and down the Ilse and decided to visit with one of my colleagues here at work from Nigerian. I like visiting with him often to get my occasional "brada" dose. This Thursday morning however had a little twist to it. It was 9:45am and as I got closer to his cube, there was a different kind of odor in the air. I can confirm with authority that it wasn't bacon and eggs!! He was busy feasting on "Egisu" that early in the morning!! As I got closer, I contemplated whether my daily dose of "brada" would serve me good for the rest of the day. My biggest dilemma was my Hong Kong-made cotton & wool GAP sweater that absorbs my John Varvatos cologne pretty well. I knew more than 5minutes in that cube would mean meshing Varvatos with "Egisu" smell. I love exotic foods, I also enjoy watching Anthony Bardon on travel channel......... but I had to think quick and make a decision! Question of the day: Is there is a time and place for everything? What would you do when confronted by "Egisu smell"?

"Margie" - Person of the week!!!!

I met a pretty interesting lady in my grad class last night, named Margaret but she goes by "margie". She is married and in her early 50's. She pastors a small church with her husband down in Arlington, Tx. I asked her about her small church and she was quick to correct me......."it's small in size but big in teachings", she quipped. She's originally from Huntsville Texas......I'm sure you don't want to give any hitch hiker's a ride in her old neighborhood. That's the home of the biggest maximum security correctional facility in G.W Bush Texas. You can smell executions in the air. Back to Margie......if she was to be an animal, she would like to be a Tiger. I believe this is a reflection of her strength and compassion. She was the younger of two siblings but was very instrumental in taking care of her ailing mother and holding the family together. She has a 24 year old son who loves to play soccer and a 17 year old daughter about to graduate from high school. Another reason why I think she's a sweet mother and very funny (if you meet her in person), she decided to postpone her graduation to August so as not to take away any thunder from her daughter's graduation in May of this year......(things that mother do)..... She loves grits for breakfast (it's a southern thing), I told her I prefer cornflakes because it's easy on my palate and it's an "international cereal"......(she gave me a dirty look). I look forward to learning and having lots of interesting discussions with her this semester in my Communication and Business Behavior class. She is my "person of the week"!!!

Making the most of your time

I don't profess to be overly religious, but a friend shared something that kind of caught my attention yesterday. The message "God expects the believer to use his time wisely". Life can be a dream without reality but it doesn't have to be that way. God has given us a time boundary, and within that time boundary he has defined a course. Take advantage of the opportunities!!
